1. General App Access & Suitability
The Explore Boystown application is intended for a General Audience and is suitable for all ages interested in exploring the North Halsted neighborhood (Boystown), its businesses, history, and community events.
- Age of Consent/User: There is no minimum age requirement to download and use the app’s core functions (Events Calendar, Map, General Directory).
- Anonymously Sing-In: The app’s key features, including the Anonymously Sing-In, do not require a verified age, as no account creation or personal data (email/password) is needed.
2. Bar Directory and Nightlife Content
The majority of content within the Complete Bar Directory section is focused on licensed venues where alcohol is served, which is governed by strict state and city laws.
- Minimum Age for Venues: All bars and nightclubs listed in the Explore Boystown directory are strictly 21 years of age and older to enter (with the exception of non-alcohol related public events hosted at the venue, which will be noted on the event calendar).
- Mandatory ID: Venues in Chicago are known for strictly enforcing ID checks. Users must present a valid, government-issued photo ID to enter any listed bar or nightlife establishment.
- App Responsibility: Explore Boystown is a guide only and does not control the entry policies of third-party venues. Users under 21 years old attempting to enter 21+ venues will be denied entry by the venue’s staff.
3. Events Calendar
The Local Events Calendar will clearly indicate the age restriction for each listing:
- All-Ages: Events such as street festivals, retail sales, or community gatherings are open to all.
- 18+ or 21+: Nightlife, bar-related events, or specialized performances will clearly display the minimum age requirement.
4. Policy Changes
